Hi all. Thanks to those who came along to the final lesson, and I hope I was able to hook you up with a range of fab work-placement contacts.
Here’s the final PDF, on stereo-3D…

I took your essays home for marking today. Essay % grades will be available on your end-of-year transcript of marks. Feedback/mark sheets + essays will be available for you to collect from the THS office once the marks have been approved by the Exam Board (probably by about July). The THS office is usually open over the summer, but may be closed for a couple of weeks in August.
This website will self-destruct in about three weeks, so if there’s anything here you want, grab it now. Have a good summer!

Hi everyone. I hope you didn’t turn up last Monday (a national Bank Holiday).
We have the final lesson on Monday 2nd June 08. Both the 9.30am and the 11.30am classes should come along at 10.00am — we’ll have a single combined lesson.
I expect that we may also have the second-year (L5) THS option sign-up sheets pinned up on the first-floor VisComm noticeboard, by Monday. I know some of you at Bournville have already seen the options — but I can also give you advice on choosing one, if you come along to the lesson on Monday.

Just a reminder that there won’t be an 11.30am class next week. Those in the 11.30am class should instead come along to the main THS lecture theatre at either 10am or 2pm (it’s your choice). The THS lecture theatre is on the ground floor of the same building where we usually have lessons. We’ll be joining once again with the B.A. (Hons.) Visual Communication students.

A cool video-lecture from BLDGBLOG, on Data Visualisation. It makes the fatal mistake of online video: it takes 40 seconds of titles to get to the actual content — by which time half the potential audience has got bored and gone elsewhere. But stick with it to the 90 seconds point, when it starts to get very interesting.

Lovebytes 2008: Digital Art in Sheffield (9th - 10th May 08). Free! I was rather excited about the Advanced Beauty event, until I read the deadly word “video”…
Advanced Beauty receives its world premiere screening at the Showroom Cinema. This collection of audio-visual sound sculptures by 18 international artists, is being exhibited as a multi-screen video…
Really, by now digital artists should be able to do “audio-visual sound sculptures” in ways that don’t simply wheel out wheezy old ‘video’ yet again and slap a ‘digital art’ label on it. Still, there may be some interesting processes in there, since… “Advanced Beauty contributor Karsten Schmidt gives a masterclass in generative design”.

DON’T FORGET - Monday (5th May) is a BANK HOLIDAY. So we won’t have a lesson on that date.
We’ll be back as normal on Monday 12th May 2008.

On the other side of the planet is another class weblog, which is dealing with topics that are relevant to those who have chosen to do our ‘Essay No.3.’

A BBC and AHRC-sponsored conference is happening soon, Children in Virtual Worlds (22nd May 2008, University of Westminster, London)…
“BBC Children’s and the University of Westminster invite you to the first conference in the UK to draw together producers and researchers working on virtual worlds and immersive gaming environments for children aged 7-11 online.”

Happening just eight days before the hand-in date for your essay, if you’re doing the first essay topic. Although, sadly, it seems to have sold out already. But they say… “Presentations, notes and papers will be available online after the event”.
